Mark Prisk MP

 

Mark lives in Much Hadham with his wife Lesley. A Chartered Surveyor, Mark ran his own business for ten years before entering politics. He was elected as MP for Hertford & Stortford in 2001 and has increased his share of the vote in every subsequent re-election.

Mark was the Minister of State for Business & Enterprise 2010-2012 and Minister of State for Housing 2012-2013. Since leaving Government he has served on the Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee. In 2014 he was appointed as the Prime Minister’s Trade & Investment Envoy to the Nordic & Baltic nations and in 2016 also to Brazil.

 

Mark supports many charities and local causes including in musical education, the hospice movement and the arts. He is a keen walker and choral singer and regularly attends St. Andrew’s Church in Much Hadham. He and his wife are fans of rugby, theatre and cinema.

 

 

Mark's record as an MP is of concerted action for our community. In recent years he has:

 

  • Secured £4m for the installation of superfast broadband across Hertfordshire

 

  • Backed the community campaign to stop Bengeo Quarry in Hertford

 

  • Won online compensation for rail commuters; and lobbied for new rolling stock on the Hertford Loop. He has successfully opposed plans for replacing trains for a seven year period northwards to Stevenage

 

  • Led a cross-party campaign for new rolling stock and track infrastructure on the West Anglia Route rail, helping passengers in Bishop’s Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, Ware, St Margaret’s and Hertford East

 

  • Worked with local GPs and NHS staff to improve overstretched health services in Bishop's Stortford, Ware and Hertford

 

  • Sponsored the Homelessness Reduction Act

 

  • Led a mentoring campaign for local students to help older people get online

 

  • Campaigned against a second runway at Stansted Airport

 

  • Helped save Hertford Post Office from closure; and three others sub post offices, including in Bishop's Stortford

 

  • Organised workshops for local small firms on exports and on pension auto-enrolment

 

  • Shortened the time Network Rail planned to take on the Hertford North to Stevenage services works from 7 years to 18 months
